Carolyn Hughes - Founder | Director

Carolyn is an applied behavioural scientist with over 25 years of experience helping organisations—particularly in the non-profit and public sectors—reimagine how they attract, assess, and retain talent. She founded Rewired, a consultancy dedicated to making hiring fairer, faster, and more effective through the ethical application of behavioural science.

Carolyn’s career began with a degree in Social Anthropology, sparking a lifelong curiosity about people, culture, and how we work together. She first put that curiosity into practice as a careers adviser in Tyneside, where she supported people from all walks of life in navigating their employment journeys. From there, she moved into recruitment and selection, building a strong foundation in designing processes that work not only for organisations but also for candidates.

Driven by a desire to blend theory with real-world impact, Carolyn pursued further qualifications in behavioural science and business psychology. She is a member of the British Psychological Society, the Association of Business Psychologists, and GAABS—the Global Association of Applied Behavioural Scientists—and is known for her ability to translate complex research into practical tools that help organisations make better human decisions.

Over the years, Carolyn has worked with many clients across the charity, public, and social enterprise sectors – from grassroots initiatives to large regulatory bodies – always focusing on values, inclusion, and getting the best from people. Her approach is thoughtful, evidence-based, and person-centred, and her work consistently helps clients uncover overlooked talent, reduce bias, and build strong, committed teams.

At its heart, Rewired exists to challenge the status quo in hiring – to strip away outdated practices, surface hidden potential, and create recruitment experiences that feel fair, human, and purposeful. Carolyn’s work is grounded in the belief that inclusive, evidence-led hiring isn’t just better for candidates – it’s better for organisations too.

By helping clients rethink how they define merit, assess talent, and build teams, Rewired aims to create workplaces where people can truly thrive – and where the best ideas, skills, and contributions are never overlooked.
