Starting Rewired: What Happens When a Behavioural Scientist Takes on Hiring?
It’s official—Rewired is live! And, honestly, starting a business feels a bit like jumping into a new job where you’ve somehow convinced the hiring panel you know what you’re doing, but deep down, you’re thinking, Wait… who let me in here?
For years, I’ve been helping organisations rethink the way they hire. I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the seriously, how is this still happening in 2025? side of recruitment. And one thing has always been clear: the traditional way of hiring just isn’t working.
Too many brilliant people are overlooked. Too many job descriptions are vague laundry lists of things no human can actually do. And let’s not even get started on unstructured interviews where ‘gut feeling’ rules the day (which, spoiler alert, usually just means hiring people who remind us of ourselves).
So, I decided it was time to do something about it.
Why Rewired?
I wanted a name that captured exactly what this business is about—rewiring how we think about hiring. Not tearing it all down and starting from scratch (though, some days, I’m tempted), but tweaking, fine-tuning, and fixing the parts that aren’t working.
Rewired is about making hiring fairer, faster, and way more effective. It’s about limiting bias (because ‘bias-free’ hiring doesn’t exist) and making sure organisations get the right people for the right roles—without relying on who shouts the loudest in an interview or who happens to have the ‘right’ background.
The Start-Up Reality Check
People often ask what it’s like launching a business, and the truth? It’s 10% exciting, 10% terrifying, and 80% Googling things you never thought you’d need to know.
How long can I stare at a blank ‘About Us’ page before writing something? (Answer: Longer than I’d like to admit.)
How do I explain what I do without sounding like an HR textbook? (Answer: Still working on it.)
What’s the perfect balance between looking professional and not sounding like a corporate robot? (Answer: No idea, but I’ll keep trying.)
Can I actually run a business without asking ChatGPT for help at least three times a day? (Answer: Apparently not.)
But despite the admin, the website tweaks, and the inevitable ‘should I have just stayed in a normal job?’ moments, it’s been completely worth it. Because this is the work I love—helping organisations make hiring smarter, fairer, and actually fit for purpose.
What’s Next?
Over the next few months, I’ll be sharing insights, rants, and myth-busting blogs about what’s really going on in hiring. Expect deep dives into things like:
Why ‘culture fit’ is nonsense
How psychometric testing isn’t as scary as it sounds
Why job descriptions are secretly ruining everything
If any of that sounds even remotely interesting, stick around. And if you’re looking to make hiring fairer and more effective in your organisation—let’s talk.
Rewired is just getting started, but I’m excited to see where this goes.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go tweak my LinkedIn bio for the 47th time.
